Assalamualaikum,
Let me ask you a question. Is it ok to support someone who is doing something wrong? Some people might think as long as they themselves aren't doing it, its ok. But in Islam we are taught to be better than that. We are strongly encouraged to spread what is good, encourage others to do good, and to refrain from all that is bad. That includes stopping others from doing wrong wherever we can. If we have the power to stop someone from doing wrong, yet we just sit back and allow it to happen, we might as well have joined in the wrong-doing as well.
Back to the question I asked earlier, its bad enough if we don't stop others from doing something wrong, but what if we go further than that and encourage those who are doing something wrong?
One of the reasons I don't support local entertainment like music, movies or TV, is because I just don't like it. But another reason is because most of the people involved in the local entertainment industry are Muslims. Would it be right for me to support a female singer who in her music videos dances around in an outfit that is not covering her aurat? Or would it be right for me to support a man who in his movies hugs another woman as if she were his wife when she isn't? Would it be right for me to support a woman who while acting, wears a tudung, but when not on set doesn't?
One thing I realise is that some people do good by reminding their friends to always mind their aurat, take care of their akhlak and so on, but when it comes to Muslim celebrities, they turn a blind eye, as if Islam does not apply to them. Not only that, they shower the actors and singers with praise and adulation, which to me, is not something which should be done.
There's currently a status update being spread around Facebook about how an animated movie from the West although had no Muslims involved in its making, was full with Islamic values, yet a local movie which had many Muslims involved, was un-Islamic. I won't comment on that particular example, but I must say I agree with the principle in general. You don't have to be a Muslim to practice Islamic values, and just because you are Muslim, doesn't automatically make everything you do Islamic.
So I leave you to ponder my earlier question. Is it ok to support someone who is doing something wrong? If you say no, then is it ok to be supporting our local celebrities (not all but most of them) who aren't good Muslim/ah role models?

i ever thought about this at once..all in all, what i can conclude was that its depend on the individual.it seems like a small thing but the impact is greater.i'm sure some people don't realize about this,in fact, for them,it doesn't a matter at all.just think about it..
yup, totally agree with you. seeing local muslim artists behaving as if they're hollywood artists really turns me off. besides, local entertainment sucks! haha..
