Assalamualaikum,
Controversial subject I know. Then again, why should it be? In an "Islamic nation" such as Malaysia, the issue of "gay rights" should really be a none-issue because in Islam, homosexuality (as well as transgerderism) is forbidden. Its like the whole Ashraf Hafiz issue all over again.
In Islam its simple, if you're born male, you're meant to be male, and meant to be with females. End of story. No problems of guys falling in love with guys, guys wanting to be women and what not. Seksualiti Merdeka is not promoting homosexuality I know, its promoting acceptance, but as Malaysia claims to be a nation under Islamic rule (which it should be), there can be no movements encouraging acceptance of people with these problems. You cannot ask people to accept something which is wrong.
Human rights, and free will only go so far. They are not absolute. Humans are not free to to anything and everything they desire, which is why religion, as well as society implement rules. If you belong to a certain religion, or a certain society, a club or whatever, there are always rules. You have the right to do as you wish so long as you abide by these rules. Being Muslim, you cannot be gay. Therefore you will have no rights as one. There's no way around it.
Now I know some people will be arguing on behalf of the non-Muslims. Let me ask you this; the majority of people in Malaysia to my knowledge, believe in God and religion. Is there any religion which allows homosexuality? Transgenderism? I'm pretty sure Christianity does not, which by the way is probably the 2nd largest religion in Malaysia.
For the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community, if you wish to live your life that way, so be it, it is your choice. Just don't expect other Malaysians to accept your lifestyle when it is against their religious beliefs.
PS: I am not saying that we should completely ignore the LGBT community. There could be those who honestly need guidance, and in those situations we do need to provide support and help them get back on their feet.
