What time is Maghrib?

Assalamualaikum,

Since Ramadhan started, I've seen two of my Facebook friends write about prayer times as their FB status. One friend wrote about how the day before Ramadhan, if you ask someone what time Maghrib was, chances are they wouldn't know, but if you ask them the next day (the 1st of Ramadhan) they most probably would know. Another friend wrote about how radio stations (the mainstream entertainment stations, not the state/Islamic stations) now start announcing the times for imsak and Maghrib. He also questioned why announce imsak times instead of Subuh.

It is a common thing isn't it? During Ramadhan, we all know what time imsak/Subuh and Maghrib is. Do we bother to take note of what time Zohor and Asar is? Isya I guess most guys do take note, assuming they go to the masjid for terawih. What's sad is if we don't bother at all anymore after Ramadhan to take note of the prayer times.

As for the radio stations, it is a good gesture that they announce the times during Ramadhan. Shows they care for their listeners who are fasting. But at the same time, it kinda makes you wonder why they don't continue to do so outside of Ramadhan. And for all the prayer times, not just Subuh and Maghrib. I mean, it might only take 30-60 seconds to announce the prayer times. I doubt that would be too difficult to do.

My mama prints out the daily prayer times each month and puts it up in our living room so we always know what the prayer times are. I hope those who read this make an effort to always be aware of the prayer times, even outside of Ramadhan.
