No Muslim GRO's in Kuantan

Assalamualaikum,

Being Muslim, it should be common sense that you don't work or eat in an establishment that serves alcohol. It doesn't matter if you don't consume the alcohol, being in such a place in itself is already wrong. Its frustrating to see Muslims eating and working in restaurants and entertainment outlets that serve alcohol, with their mindset being "janji tak minum takpe". I mean its not like there's no other place to eat and work. Here in Malaysia there's like so many other places that are halal and don't serve alcohol, yet they insist on going to places that do serve alcohol, and obviously aren't halal.

On that note, I have to give props to the Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) for barring Muslim women from working as GRO's starting next year. I only hope that nobody will come out and criticise the ban and force MPK to reverse their decision. In Malaysia, too often a good religious decision is overturned because some parties challenge the ruling. This ruling only affects Muslims, and is obviously in-line with religious teachings. No way can anyone say this is a bad ruling.

Having said that, we have had people opposing such a ban before. This wasn't the first time such a ruling was implemented. Back in January, I wrote this article which involves a similar kind of ban, which was implemented by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ). And there were those who opposed the ban, even Muslims!

It's ridiculous that we have Muslims fighting for the right to work in industries that involve drinking. Absolutely ridiculous. If human law states that possession of drugs (even without abuse) is illegal, surely Allah's law that drinking is prohibited also extends to selling and serving.

I hope other municipal councils will follow suit soon, and extend the ban to prevent ALL Muslims from entering any establishment that serves alcohol, including restaurants for any reason whatsoever. And that the bans stick.
