Assalamualaikum,
Being Muslim is a full-time job. That means at all times of the day, we must act in accordance with the religion. Its not enough to try and be a good Muslim only on Fridays, or only in Ramadhan. Its not good enough being Muslim only during the 5 daily prayers, but not during the rest of the day. But unfortunately, that's how some people are.
Some people pray, but don't cover their aurah when they go out. Some people fast in Ramadhan, but don't pray on a daily basis. Many people don't drink alcohol, but still eat in non-halal restaurants. Some people cover their aurah, but freely and shamelessly act like best friends with the opposite gender. Some people cover their aurah in public, but post free-hair pictures on Facebook. Some guys go to masjid/surau regularly, but wear shorts when they play football. Some people recite the Quran on a regular basis, but frequently use explicit language with their friends.
Need I go on?
It's difficult to try to be the best Muslim you can be, I know it is. But most of the examples I gave above are choices we make; they're not really things we have no control over. Most of the time, we freely choose to make those mistakes, either thinking that our other good deeds can cover up the bad, or we're just being stubborn. We know it's wrong but do it anyway, why is that?
Most jobs pay regardless if you're a full-time or part-time employee, but being Muslim only pays when you are a full-time Muslim.
PS: Many people think that being Muslim means you can't have fun. Being Muslim does not prevent you from having fun. You just need to make sure that what you do for fun does not hurt you as a Muslim.
