Obedient Wife Club

Assalamualaikum,

Recently our news portals have been rife with news concerning the establishment of the "Obedient Wife Club". While I applaud the overall goal of the club, which is to prevent problems such as domestic violence, divorce and adultery, I don't think they are doing it the right way.

What the club is saying in a nutshell, is that wives must obey and fulfil their husbands' every demand in order to keep them from straying and falling into the arms of another woman. And yes, the club does refer to sexual demands as well. The club recommends that wives treat husbands "better than a first-class prostitute" to keep him happy.

The way I see it, the club believes that the purpose of women in marriage is to please the husband. And if the husband strays, it is the wife who is to blame, not the husband. That just seems wrong to me. Surely wives, women in fact are of more value than that? To say that the wife is merely there to please the husband and fulfil his every demand is just rubbish, like wives are merely tools the husband uses to please himself. I may not be an ustaz, but I believe Islam places more value on wives, and women than that.

This will only paint a more negative picture of how Islam treats women. I know many people disagree with what this club believes in, but when they get in the media for all the world to see, the damage has been done.

Women are not tools for men to use. Islam does not put women in such a position. Husbands and wives are equally responsible for keeping each other happy and for taking care of each other.

I think they created this club with ego. They want to win all the times.

I got an anonymous comment, and although I appreciate the views, the language was a little inappropriate so I didn't approve it.

Long story short, the comment showed anger and disapproval towards the club for their views :)
