Man or Woman?

Assalamualaikum,

Gender is something determined by genetics. The chromosome that determines gender is the Y chromosome. If its present, you're a guy; if not you're a girl. For those who believe in Darwinism, they will say chance determines a baby's gender. For those who believe in God, they will say that He decides the gender. In any case, once you're gender is determined, there's no turning back. Either chance has determined that you will be a guy/girl, or God has.

So why is it we have guys trying to be girls and vice versa? Gender like many other things determined by genetics can't be altered. You can't change the colour of your eyes, your blood type, your hair colour and definitely not your gender. No matter how you dress, what you do to your hair, what you change your name to, what hormones and drugs you take, you will always be what you were born as.

For those who believe in God, changing your gender is like saying that God made a mistake. To me, acknowledging that you are not the gender you were meant to be, is dismissing your belief in God. Because whoever believes in God, believes that He doesn't make mistakes. That's what I think anyway.

The usually mundane court complex was abuzz as the man, clad in a red and white kebaya, attended proceedings.

Ashraf Hafiz Abdul Aziz, 25, who also wore a pink headscarf, had applied to change his name to Aleesha Farhana Abd Aziz.

People who are of a more, "open" understanding will say that people have the right to choose their gender. But people of faith, who believe that nothing in this world happens without the will of God, will say that God doesn't make mistakes. Trying to change your gender is acknowledging that God made a mistake. So if you believe in God and you still want to change your gender, you best be prepared to be held accountable.
